Build the UK Global Talent Visa Application Triangle
During case assembly with our clients, we often talk about what’s called Application Triangle. It means thinking of your documents as forming a “triangle” each side of which supports your case in their own way. This includes:
CV (Curriculum Vitae)
A well-structured CV is critical. Include your most notable achievements. Don’t forget industry-specific details like your Google Scholar or Research Gate profiles for academia UK global talent visa applications. Or your GitHub account for tech professionals. Add media, awards, mentorship and other notable accomplishments that highlight you as a standout talent.
Letters of Recommendation (LORs)
Referees should back up the claims you make in your CV. Choose three referees who are respected leaders in your industry. These should be individuals who can comment on your skills, character, and contributions. Letters should highlight your achievements and explain why you are recognised as an exceptional talent or promise in your field. Don’t forget to include bios of your referees in the second paragraph and, ideally, the exact date you got to know each other.
Evidence Pieces
Each piece should validate your achievements and claims made in LORs and CV, providing concrete proof of your impact and recognition. Evidence pieces are there to help you add extra information (more visual) and to provide external proof of what you have previously mentioned. You are usually allowed a maximum of 10 supporting documents when you make your Global Talent visa application in the UK.
Tip: Structure these 15 documents (1 CV, 3 LORs, and 10 pieces of evidence) cohesively to tell a consistent story. Avoid unnecessary repetition, and ensure each piece builds on the others to present a complete picture.
Strengthen your evidence pieces
While Letters of Recommendations and CV play an important role in your UK Global Talent application, most people fail when it comes to evidence pieces.
In the past 1.5 years, there has been a massive shift from focus on LORs to evidence pieces becoming the main part of your application. When we see a rejection proforma from the endorsing body, it usually includes 3-4 lines of comments about LORs and 3-4 paragraphs of comments about evidence pieces. So those 10 documents (your evidence pieces) should get as much attention as the other documents!

Each piece of evidence should be purposefully selected and formatted to highlight and expand your achievements and contributions clearly.
- Organise evidence pieces documents with clear titles and short introductions: Each piece of evidence should be labelled and briefly introduced to explain its relevance to the endorsement criteria.
- Add context/explanations: Often, applicants include several screenshots (e.g. of emails) or just pdf of audited accounts with no context. Adding descriptions to pieces of information helps case reviewers to fully understand what you are trying to convey.
- Diversify evidence: Ensure each piece offers unique insights and information into your achievements, don’t just repeat what is written in your CV or LORs.
- Provide external validation: Endorsement bodies often reject applications because of “unsupported claims” or “self-certified data” which are only backed by the applicant’s own statements or his referees’ words. Strengthen your evidence by including third-party verification, such as public records, press releases, media mentions, or external awards.
- Keep it concise and clear: Avoid overly technical language, especially if your evidence may be reviewed by non-specialists. Stick to the page limit per document as this is a requirement.
What not to include in your application
Including too many documents or irrelevant information can weaken your application. Here are some common mistakes to avoid:
Repetitive information
Each piece of evidence should be unique and add new value. Avoid including different documents that make the same point.
Documents without clear relevance
Only include pieces that directly support the endorsement criteria. Irrelevant certifications, or documents with unclear relevance will be disregarded.
Over-reliance on self-certified
Once again, self-certified data, information that’s backed only by the applicant or internal sources, is often cited in rejection proformas. To avoid this, support key claims with independent verification whenever possible, such as public records, media articles, or third-party endorsements.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Successful Global Talent Visa Applications
How many documents should I include in my application?
Stick to the limit of 15 documents—1 CV, 3 letters of recommendation, and 10 pieces of supporting evidence. Ensure each document has a clear purpose and adds value to your application.
How should I select referees for my Letters of Recommendation?
Choose referees who know your work well and have a respected reputation in your field. For academia, focus on professors or researchers with published work; for arts, a notable curator or critic may be more effective. For tech professionals, c-suite executives in your company are the best. For entrepreneurs, it could be advisors or investors, your company’s clients. Basically someone ranking higher than you.
What’s the best way to structure evidence documents?
Label each document with a brief description (e.g., “Media recognition”, “Innovation in the XYZ field”) and provide a short introduction explaining its relevance. Use headings to guide reviewers through key points.
Can I include both local and international recognition?
Yes, international recognition can strengthen your application, but local achievements are also valuable. Focus on evidence that best demonstrates your impact, regardless of location.
Is it acceptable to include ongoing projects?
Yes, as long as you can show outcomes or impact. For instance, if you led the launch of a pilot project that received positive user feedback or industry attention, this can be valuable evidence.
