BCG Associate Application Process 2026-27: London Stages, Numerical Test and Deadline

Associate · London · 2026-27 cycle

Applications close 18 Oct 2026, 23:59 BSTMissed it? Your options

Short answer: You apply online with a CV and ranked offices, and no cover letter. After a first review, BCG London invites you to a short numerical assessment. A final CV review follows, then case-based first-round interviews with senior London consultants. Applications close at 23:59 BST on Sunday 18 October 2026. London will share decisions in early November 2026. Applied already? Start at the test step.

Where are you now?

Independent guide. EP Advisory is not affiliated with Boston Consulting Group.

BCG hires graduates in London as Associates. It publishes its steps, the five traits its interviewers look for and its case advice, so you can prepare for each stage.

This playbook covers London, including for international students. For nearly 10 years, we’ve helped more than 5,000 professionals get hired. Want to know if your CV will pass screening in the UK? Check your CV for free: a score in 30 seconds, then a fix for each problem.

Your route to an offer

Pick your stage and tick each step when done. Dates are from BCG’s 2026-27 London ad. Prep times are our suggestions.

1. Apply: closes 23:59 BST on 18 Oct 2026

CV and ranked offices, no cover letter. Prep 1 to 2 days. BCG makes all decisions after the deadline, so applying late in the window is no disadvantage.

2Applied already? Start at the test step

How to apply

2. Numerical test: after a first CV review

A short online numerical assessment. Prep 1 to 2 weeks. BCG then reviews your CV a final time.

The numerical test

3. Interviews: first round, case-based

Your background and motivation, then a case. Prep 2 to 3 weeks. BCG London says first-round interviews are case-based, with senior members of its London consulting team.

4. Final round: format not published

BCG does not publish London’s later rounds. Prep about 1 week. BCG calls the first interviews first-round, which suggests more follow.

Then the offer. Your portal status moves to Offer Extended. The London team also emails you at each stage.

Where these facts come from
  • Deadline. The London job ad, posted on 9 September 2026, gives 23:59 BST on Sunday 18 October 2026 as the deadline. The UK Associate page gives the same window.
  • Grades and experience. BCG asks for “at least a 2:1 degree or equivalent”. You are in your final year, or you graduated with less than two years of full-time work.
  • Internship. Eight weeks in July and August, for penultimate-year students. Applications run from 1 Jan to 24 Jan 2027.
  • Salary. BCG does not publish pay for this role, and we found no survey we trust.
  • Visa. BCG’s international page. See chapter 8.

New for 2026-27

The deadline moved earlier this year. London’s deadline was 23 October last year, as the archived UK page shows. This year it closes on 18 October.

What BCG looks for

A 2:1 is the one hard bar. Then BCG looks for excellence outside your studies.

A 2:1 or equivalent

Show it by: your degree and grade at the top of your CV.

Excellence outside academics

Show it by: a club, a role you led or a prize, with a result.

Numbers and detail

Show it by: results you measured, in a CV with no slips.

Teamwork and clear English

Show it by: a project you delivered with a mixed team.

The five traits BCG’s interviewers look for

IntegrityIntellectual CuriosityCreative ThinkingCollaborative MindsetDrive

In BCG’s words, from its interview process page. Each story you tell should show one or two of them.

What BCG says about each
  • Grades. BCG UK wants “a strong academic background (at least a 2:1 degree or equivalent)”.
  • Outside academics. It also wants “evidence of excellence in areas outside of academics”. Examples it gives: “extracurricular activities, leadership roles, or other achievements”.
  • Numbers and detail. The ad asks for “Strong analytical skills for quantitative problem-solving, paired with high attention to detail”.
  • Teamwork and English. It asks for “Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English” and the “Ability to work collaboratively in diverse teams”.
  • Experience. More than two years of work since you graduated? BCG asks you to “explore alternative roles”.
  • Your questions. A London consultant on BCG’s interview page: “The questions you ask at the end of your interview can really help you understand if you are a fit for BCG.”
Associate or Senior Associate?

Both use the same London process. Your degree decides which role BCG considers you for.

Associate

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.

Senior Associate

A PhD or a medical degree.

04/10Stage 1 · Apply

How to apply

Your CV carries the first screen alone. No cover letter is needed.

1

Create a profile

With a personal email

2

Rank your offices

Up to four, ideally three

3

Upload your CV

No cover letter needed

4

Sit the test

After a first CV review

More on offices, email and timing
  • Your email. Use “your personal email address that you will have regular access to in the future”. You cannot change it later (UK Associate page).
  • How many offices. BCG says “you may apply to up to four offices at once, though we recommend applying to three” (UK international page).
  • Order matters. Every office you choose can see your application, but “only 1 office can move forward with your application”. Offices review it in the order you ranked them.
  • Top two. The top two office preferences in your profile must match your applications.
  • A London no does not stop other offices from considering you.
  • Applying late. “All decisions are made after the deadline”, so a late application within the window is no disadvantage.
  • Written questions. BCG lists none for London, and no word limits.
  • One interview at a time. If you accept another BCG consulting interview before London decides, your London application is withdrawn (London job ad). BCG says London will share decisions in early November 2026.
  • AI. BCG’s AI guidance warns: “If you (or AI) fabricate anything, it will backfire.”

Your CV: do and don’t

Do

“Led a team of five that cut event costs by 20%”

Put your grade first. Give each role a numbered result, and show excellence outside your studies.

Don’t

“Responsible for events”

A duty with no result tells BCG little.

Our CV achievement examples show how to write those lines. Getting ready to apply for jobs in the UK? Check your CV for free: see it the way a recruiter does, then fix each problem.

Can’t make the deadline? Your options
  • Still studying? Penultimate-year students can apply for London’s eight-week summer internship from 1 Jan to 24 Jan 2027. Interns are “evaluated for an offer for a full-time graduate role”.
  • At a UK university? BCG’s Africa UK Schools route covers Nairobi, Casablanca, Lagos, Johannesburg and Cairo. It closes on Friday 30 October 2026.
  • A Dutch connection? Amsterdam has a second window, from 19 Oct to 29 Nov 2026.
  • Other offices. BCG’s UK international page lists a Middle East window that opens in January 2027, and an October to November campaign for Tel Aviv. Ask the UK International team at [email protected].
  • Next London cycle. London opens each September, so the next window is likely to open in September 2027. After a rejection, BCG’s guidance is “typically waiting a year after your last interview or application rejection”.
  • A spring round? BCG has run a spring round before. Watch the London jobs page.
  • Other firms. See our McKinsey Business Analyst and Bain Associate Consultant guides.

05/10Stage 2 · Numerical test

The numerical test

London uses one test: a short numerical assessment. BCG says it “forms part of your application”. It comes after a first look at your CV.

What BCG says

A short numerical assessment, after an initial CV review. A final CV review follows it.

Not published

The length, the platform, the calculator rule, whether you can go back, and any pass mark. Check your invite.

Step through the test

Start the assessment

Your invite comes after BCG’s first look at your CV. Read it for the time limit and calculator rule, then start. No real screen is public, so these drawings follow candidate reports, and the layout is our guess.

Our drawing of a numerical assessment start screen: a card that sends you to your invite for the number of questions, the time limit and the calculator rule, and a Start button. No real screen is public.

Read a chart

Read the chart, then work out the answer. Prep sites report chart and table questions like this one.

Our drawing of a chart question: a bar chart of website visits for four months, a question asking for the rise from January to April in percent, five answer options with 50% picked, and a Next button. The five-option layout is our guess.

Work from a table

Some questions ask for a quick percentage or share from a table. BCG does not publish a calculator rule, so practise with and without one.

Our drawing of a table question: staff numbers for four offices, a question asking what share work in London, five answer options with 60% picked, and a Next button. The layout is our guess.

Your moves

  • Read the question first, so you know what to look for in the chart.
  • Estimate the answer, then work it out.
  • Practise with and without a calculator.

Our own simplified drawings, drawn from candidate reports, not screenshots. BCG has not published this test’s screens, so they show the type of question, not BCG’s exact layout.

The rules: check and banned

Check your invite

  • The calculator rule
  • The time limit
  • The number of questions

Banned

  • AI help, unless BCG allows it

BCG says AI “should never be used without permission during live interviews or digital assessments” (BCG careers blog, February 2026). It publishes no other rules for this test, so follow your invite.

What BCG does not say, and other offices
  • Calculator. BCG has not published a rule for London. Prep sites agree: practise with and without one.
  • Amsterdam. Its ad describes a test where you “interpret graphs, draw quantitative conclusions based on available information and make calculations”. It is a different office, but the closest official description.
  • Switzerland. Its page describes a 30-minute test taken “without any tools or resources”. That is not the London test.
  • Your score. BCG publishes no pass mark, and does not say if you see your result.
  • Casey and the CCA. BCG’s US page lists an online case and the Consulting Career Assessment. Neither appears on the UK pages.

06/10Stage 3 · Interviews

BCG interviews

Each interview starts with you, then moves to a case. A BCG Associate describes the split on BCG’s careers blog.

Background and motivationYour story

Your path · Your reasons · Your stories

CaseClient problem

Clarify · Structure · Maths · Recommend

BCG London says: first-round interviews are “case-based discussions with senior members of our London consulting team”. It does not publish the number of rounds.

BCG: “candidates are expected to own their answers”. Case interviews “are not designed to be stress tests”. Every role also includes a behavioural interview “focused on your experiences and accomplishments” (BCG careers blog).

How to answer

A case

You lead the case. Five habits from a BCG Associate’s tips:

1

Clarify first

Ask “a few focused clarifying questions” before you structure.

2

Structure, then adapt

Make your thinking visible. Adjust as new facts come in.

3

Plan the maths

Say what you will calculate, then talk through each step.

4

Track takeaways

Note what each step tells you as you go.

5

Recommend

End with “recommendations, next steps, and potential risks”.

A story question

Ryan Bash, a BCG talent acquisition director, says he practised his answers with the STAR method. A short BCG Careers video adds: tell stories that are true to you. Build each one in four parts:

Situation

Where and when, in one line.

Task

What you had to achieve, and why it was hard.

Action

What you did, not the team.

Result

The change, with a number if you can.

Follow-ups to rehearse

What exactly was your role? Why did you choose that approach? What did the others think? What would you do differently?

Our list, built on BCG’s five traits.

Build each story with our guide on how to pass a job interview, then rehearse the toughest interview questions.

Practise: one question at a time

Our own practice prompts, one for each part BCG names. BCG publishes no London question list.

Background

“Talk me through your background and what draws you to consulting.”

What they’re testing: your motivation, told clearly in about two minutes.

Show a strong answer
  • Your path in time order, with one result per step.
  • Link your reasons to the work itself: problems, teams and clients.

Collaborative Mindset

“Tell me about a time your team disagreed on how to do something.”

What they’re testing: one of BCG’s five traits, the Collaborative Mindset.

Show a strong answer
  • Your role, how you brought people together, and the outcome.
  • A true story, with what you learned.

Case opening

A UK gym chain’s profits have fallen for two years. Where would you start?

What they’re testing: clarifying questions before a structure.

Show a strong answer
  • Ask about the goal, the time frame and what changed.
  • Then split profit into revenue and costs, and say which you would check first.

Maths step

The chain has 200 gyms and wants to cut costs by £10 million a year. How much is that per gym?

What they’re testing: a plan before the sum, said out loud.

Show a strong answer
  • £50,000 per gym: £10 million divided by 200.
  • Then say what it means, such as the share of one gym’s costs.

Recommendation

“You have one minute with the CEO. What do you say?”

What they’re testing: the close BCG’s Associate describes: a recommendation, risks and next steps.

Show a strong answer
  • Lead with the answer, then give two reasons.
  • Name one risk and the next step.

07/10Stage 4 · Final round

Final round and offers

BCG does not publish London’s final round format. Ask your recruiter, and bring fresh stories.

Watch your portal and email

Statuses run from Application Under Review to Interview to Offer Extended. The London team emails you at each stage.

Decisions in early November 2026

BCG says London will share decisions then. It does not say which stage they cover.

One office, one interview at a time

Accept no other BCG interview before London decides. Moving an offer to another office is rare.

More on offers
  • Statuses. BCG’s portal shows “Application Under Review,” “Interview,” and “Offer Extended” (UK international page).
  • Transfers. “Transferring offers is rare and usually requires restarting the recruitment process with your preferred office.”
  • Offer conditions. BCG’s UK pages do not list them. Ask your recruiter about degree results, right to work and checks.
  • AI. No AI help in live interviews without BCG’s permission.

Visa sponsorship

Our reading: BCG says it helps with work permits but cannot promise a visa. If you need one, ask your recruiter early.

BCG says it “will assist employees with obtaining the necessary work permits, when applicable”. It adds: “we cannot guarantee visa approval” (international page).

The Graduate visa
  • Graduate visa. It lasts “2 years if you apply on or before 31 December 2026” and “18 months if you apply on or after 1 January 2027” (GOV.UK). It needs no sponsor.

Need sponsorship? See our guides to UK companies that sponsor visas and staying in the UK after studying. This is general information, so check GOV.UK.

Frequently asked questions

How does the BCG Associate application process work in London?

You apply online with a CV and ranked offices, and no cover letter is needed. After a first review, BCG London invites you to a short numerical assessment. A final CV review follows, then case-based first-round interviews with senior London consultants. BCG does not publish the number of rounds.

When is the BCG London Associate deadline for 2026-27?

Applications close at 23:59 BST on Sunday 18 October 2026. They opened on 9 September. BCG makes all decisions after the deadline, so applying late in the window is no disadvantage. London will share decisions in early November 2026.

What test does BCG London use?

A short numerical assessment, which comes after a first look at your CV. BCG does not publish its length, platform or calculator rule, so read your invite. BCG’s UK pages do not list Casey or the Consulting Career Assessment for London.

Do I need a cover letter for BCG London?

No. The London Associate ad says a cover letter is not required. Your CV and profile carry your application, so give each role a result with a number.

How many BCG offices can I apply to?

Up to four at once, and BCG recommends three. Every office can see your application, but only one can take it forward, in the order you ranked them.

Does BCG sponsor visas in London?

Our reading: BCG says it helps with work permits but cannot guarantee visa approval. If you need a visa, ask your recruiter early. UK graduates can also use the Graduate visa, which needs no sponsor.

I missed the BCG London deadline. What now?

Penultimate-year students can apply for the London summer internship from 1 Jan to 24 Jan 2027. Students at UK universities can try the Africa UK Schools route by 30 October 2026. London opens again each September, so the next window is likely to open in September 2027.
