Short answer: IBM runs no UK graduate scheme today. On 20 October 2026, its UK job feed showed no Entry Level or graduate ad. IBM gives no UK opening date. Set up IBM’s free job alerts or join its talent network. For any role, expect IBM’s five steps: application, screening, online assessments, interviews and a decision. The tests can cover coding, video, English and work behaviours.

Your route to an offer

IBM runs no UK graduate scheme today. On 20 October 2026, IBM’s UK job feed showed no Entry Level or graduate ad. IBM gives no UK opening date.

IBM’s UK job search, read on 20 October 2026, says: “Can’t find a job that would be a good fit? Join our talent network or set up a job alert and we’ll keep you up to date with career opportunities and stories that match your interests.”

On 17 October 2026 IBM had one graduate developer ad, in one Hursley team. It had closed by 20 October.

IBM’s UK entry-level page gave no UK dates for the 2026 intake. We read its saved copies from December 2025 and March 2026.

Do this now

Set up a job alert. It needs a free IBMid account. Choose United Kingdom and Entry Level.

Join IBM’s Talent Network. A short form: your name, email, CV, country and area of interest.

Check the UK search yourself. Filter IBM’s job search by United Kingdom and Entry Level.

Find IBM’s job alerts and Talent Network on its UK entry-level page. We did not sign up for either.

Get ready now

Six things to finish before you apply. Each comes from IBM’s own pages.

A CV built on skills

IBM’s developer blog: “Experience does not always come from paid work.” Projects, clubs and coursework count.

Results with a measure

IBM asks: “What did you achieve? How did you measure your success? What role did you play in making that happen?”

Why IBM, near the top

For consulting, IBM says “highlight early in your resume your passion and interest for IBM”.

One language you know well

For developers: “Understand your language well and make sure you pick the right one.”

Timed practice tests

IBM’s Assessment FAQ: check “whether the assessments are timed or not”. Practise in one sitting.

Free IBM credentials

IBM SkillsBuild is “100% free and flexible”. You “earn shareable credentials and portfolio-ready projects”.

Pick your stage and tick each step when done. Steps are from IBM’s pages, checked 20 October 2026. The order of tasks is ours.

1. Get ready and apply

Set up alerts now, then apply when a UK entry-level role appears. Prep 1 to 2 weeks.

How to apply

2. Online tests: one or two, within 7 days

Coding, video, English or work behaviours, depending on the role. Prep 1 to 3 weeks.

IBM’s online tests

3. Interviews: structured or behavioural

Phone, video or in person, and technical or case rounds by route. Prep 2 to 3 weeks.

IBM’s interviews

4. Decision: after your final interview

IBM shares its decision, then an offer letter if you are chosen. IBM gives no overall timeframe.

Next UK opening

Already graduated: IBM’s Entry Level ads

Watch for single Entry Level ads in IBM’s UK job search. IBM posts no UK graduate cohort or intake date.

  • Who they suit. IBM’s entry-level guide describes roles that need “less than one year of relevant professional experience”.
  • Set the filters. Country United Kingdom, level Entry Level, in IBM’s job search.
  • Turn on a job alert. It needs a free IBMid account.

Still a student: internships and placements

Look for Internship ads in IBM’s UK job search. IBM’s internships page gives no UK dates.

  • Our check. On 20 October 2026, IBM’s UK job feed showed no Internship ad.
  • History, captured 5 October 2022. IBM’s UK placement page said: “Roles open periodically over the academic year for up to 1 week at a time.” A job alert is the only way to catch a window that short.

Outside the UK: IBM’s entry-level roles elsewhere

IBM’s worldwide job search lists entry-level and internship roles outside the UK. Filter it by country and level.

Outside the UK, IBM runs a Sales Accelerator Program for Europe, “with an international assignment in Valencia, Spain, or Dublin, Ireland”. You would need the right to work in the country of the ad.

IBM’s UK entry-level page also lists apprenticeships. They are not graduate routes. No UK apprenticeship ad was live on 20 October 2026.

On every route, IBM says “you need to apply to one job opening at a time, but you are free to apply to as many roles as you like”.

Four ways to reach IBM, by where you are now. If you have already graduated, watch for single Entry Level ads, which IBM posts when a team has a role; filter IBM's job search by country and level. If you are still a student, look for internship ads; each gives its own dates and location. If you have no degree yet, IBM runs an apprenticeship route for people with experience but no degree. On any route, IBM's free job alerts and Talent Network tell you when a role appears. IBM lets you apply to as many roles as you like, one application at a time.
IBM’s routes, by where you are now. Each starts in IBM’s own job search. (click to enlarge)
Where these facts come from
  • The UK feed. IBM’s job feed, the one its search page uses, read on 20 October 2026. With the United Kingdom filter it held 59 ads. All were at the Professional level.
  • IBM’s own words. IBM’s UK search page with the Entry Level filter showed “0 of 0 items” and the talent network line.
  • History, captured 3 September 2022. IBM’s UK graduate page then listed Consulting, Technology and Sales roles. It was gone by late October 2022.

What IBM looks for

IBM looks for communication, problem solving and measured outcomes. These are its own lines, from its global entry-level blogs and its UK application page.

Communication first

For developers: “The most critical skill you need is the ability to communicate.”

Problem solving and creativity

IBM’s developer blog names “Problem solving and creativity” as two other key skills.

Outcomes, not duties

“think of outcomes. What did you achieve?” IBM may also ask about your “short-, mid-, and long-term career goals”.

Flexibility

For consultants, a top skill is “Flexibility to adapt to different environments.”

Teamwork

Also for consultants: “Collaboration and being a team player.”

A real answer to why IBM

“candidates are often not prepared to answer the question, ‘Why are you interested in IBM Consulting?'”

From IBM’s entry-level developer and entry-level consultant blogs, and its UK application process page. IBM also says: “If you don’t meet 100% of the requirements but have a strong background… don’t hesitate to give it a go.”

04/10Stage 1 · Apply

How to apply

Every IBM role starts with one online application. IBM’s application process page says “hiring process may vary by location and region”.

One or two, by role

IBM’s rules for applications
  • No edits. “Applications cannot be edited after submission. You may withdraw and reapply if the position is still open.”
  • One at a time. You “apply to one job opening at a time”, but to “as many roles as you like”.
  • Saved details. “Information provided in the application process will carry over” to your next application.
  • Referrals. If you know someone at IBM, “ask them to refer you through the IBM referral platform and apply through their custom link”.
  • Timing. Selection depends on the role, “so there is no overall timeframe we can share”.
  • Status. “No Longer Under Consideration” usually means the application “did not meet one or more basic job requirements”.
IBM's hiring process in five steps. Step 1: apply online, to one job at a time. Step 2: screening, where IBM checks your application against the role. Step 3: one or two online assessments, depending on the role, finished within 7 days of the invite. Step 4: an interview by phone, video or in person, or an assessment centre. Step 5: IBM shares its decision after your final interview. IBM says the steps may vary by location and region, and that there is no overall timeframe it can share.

Your CV: do and don’t

Do

“Led a 4-person course project that cut a weekly report from 2 days to 3 hours”

Our example. It answers IBM’s questions: what you achieved, how you measured it and your role.

Don’t

“Managed a team project.”

IBM’s own weak example. Its suggested fix is to “show measurable impact, like cost savings or efficiency improvements.”

Lead with your projects and give each line a result. Our CV achievement examples show how. For layout, see what 30,000 successful CVs have in common. Getting ready to apply for jobs in UK? Check your CV for free: see it the way a recruiter does, then fix each problem.

No role yet, or not selected? Your options
  • Job alerts. In IBM’s words: “Get notified on job openings that match your skills.” They need a free IBMid account.
  • Talent Network. IBM says it helps you “Stay up to date on career related news and events.”
  • Build skills while you wait. IBM SkillsBuild courses are free and give “shareable credentials”.
  • Not selected. You may reapply to a role “if the position is still open”, and apply to other roles at any time.

05/10Stage 2 · Online tests

IBM’s online assessments

IBM may ask for one or two online assessments, depending on the role. It names no outside test supplier.

7 days

To finish after the invite

1 or 2

Assessments, by role

Not named

Test supplier

“We might ask you to complete one or two assessments, which can vary depending on your role.” IBM’s Assessment FAQ lists “coding assessments, video assessments, English language assessments, or IBM work behaviours assessments”. It asks you to “complete your assessments within 7 days of receiving the invite”. Timings and question counts are not published.

IBM's four kinds of online assessment. The coding assessment uses multiple-choice questions or coding challenges, depending on the role. The video assessment asks you to answer interview questions using your webcam and microphone. The English language assessment uses multiple-choice questions in a text format. The work behaviours assessment asks you to pick between two statements and choose the one you agree with slightly more. IBM may ask for one or two of these, and asks you to finish within 7 days of the invite.
IBM’s four assessment types, in its own words. IBM names no test supplier. (click to enlarge)

Each test in IBM’s words

Coding assessment

“Complete a set of multiple-choice questions or coding challenges depending on the role you applied to”. IBM’s developer blog adds: “The problems won’t be too difficult and will be on topics that you’re learning in class.”

Your moves

  • Revise the topics from your course, in the language you know best.
  • Do timed practice problems in one sitting.
  • Test your code on simple and unusual inputs before you submit.

Video assessment

“Answer a series of interview questions using your webcam and microphone”. IBM’s consultant blog says this applies “only for certain regions”.

Your moves

  • Use a “quiet environment with minimal distractions”, as IBM asks.
  • Check your light, sound and framing before you start.
  • Answer each question with one short story and a result.

English language assessment

“Respond to multiple-choice questions in a text-based format”. IBM publishes no more detail on length or level.

Your moves

  • Read each question fully before you look at the options.
  • Check whether the test is timed, and pace yourself.

Work behaviours assessment

You pick between two statements. IBM asks you to “choose the statement that you agree with slightly more”.

Your moves

  • “Try not to overthink your responses and go with your first reaction wherever possible.”
  • Answer as you really work, not as you think IBM wants.

From IBM’s UK application process page, its Assessment FAQ and its global entry-level blogs. IBM’s FAQ adds: “If there are practice runs available, take advantage of them”.

Allowed and not allowed

Allowed

  • AI for interview preparation
  • AI to practise role play mock interviews
  • An accommodation or adjustment, on request
  • Practice runs, where IBM offers them

Not allowed

  • AI to complete assessments or coding challenges
  • AI during live interviews
  • AI during real-time assessments
  • Editing an application after you submit it

From IBM’s UK application process page. IBM says “all candidates receive instructions on how to request an accommodation or adjustment”.

06/10Stage 3 · Interviews

IBM’s interviews

IBM uses structured or behavioural interviews. You “may be invited to schedule an interview (phone, video or in person) or an assessment center visit (group exercise and in-person interview).”

Recruiter screen

Both of IBM’s global blogs list a screening interview with a recruiter first.

Developers: a technical round

“In most cases, you’ll be given the opportunity to do the technical interview in your strongest programming language.”

Consultants: a case round

The consultant blog lists a “First round interview (case interview)”.

A behavioural round

Developers face a “Behavioral interview with upline management”. Consultants have a second, behavioural round.

No AI in the room

AI must not be used “During live interviews or real-time assessments.”

From IBM’s UK application process page and its global blogs. The developer blog says the rounds “can vary by your region or location”. The number of rounds for a UK role is not published.

IBM's usual interview rounds for two entry-level routes, side by side. Entry-level developers take an online coding test, a recruiter screen, a technical interview, then a behavioural interview with managers. Entry-level consultants take a recorded video assessment in some regions, a recruiter screen, a case interview, then a behavioural interview. IBM says the rounds can vary by region or location, and AI tools may not be used during live interviews.

Technical questions

Explain as you go, and try every question. IBM’s developer blog says: “Usually, there’s 3 or 4 questions”.

  • “Attempt every question that’s given to you”.
  • “Just focus on explaining your work and thought process.”
  • “be honest about the areas you don’t know”.

Case questions

Ask before you solve. IBM’s consultant blog says to “ensure you ask probing questions”.

  • “walk the interviewer through your thought process”.
  • “Don’t be afraid to ask the interviewer for help if you get stuck”.
  • Speak your thinking aloud, as IBM says “we can only assess what we see and hear”.

IBM’s developer blog says “90% of the time, it’s nerves” when a strong candidate struggles. See also our guides on how to pass a job interview and the toughest interview questions.

Practise: questions built on IBM’s pages

Behavioural: questions

Card 1 is from IBM’s consultant blog. Card 2 follows IBM’s application page. Cards 3 and 4 are ours, built on skills IBM’s blogs name. The strong answers are our own advice.

Motivation

“Why are you interested in IBM Consulting?”

What they’re testing: IBM says candidates “are often not prepared” for it.

Show a strong answer
  • Name one IBM area or project you read about, and why it interests you.
  • Link it to something you have done, such as a course project.
  • Say what you want to learn in your first two years.

Goals

What are your short, mid and long-term career goals?

What they’re testing: IBM says it “might ask you about your short-, mid-, and long-term career goals”.

Show a strong answer
  • Give one goal for each: the next year, three years and longer.
  • Tie the first goal to the role you applied for.
  • Keep the long-term goal honest and broad.

Flexibility

Tell me about a time you had to adapt to a new team or setting.

What they’re testing: “Flexibility to adapt to different environments”, a top consultant skill for IBM.

Show a strong answer
  • Pick a real change: a new team, country, job or tool.
  • Say what you did in the first weeks to get up to speed.
  • End with a measured result.

Problem solving

Describe a problem you solved in a creative way.

What they’re testing: “Problem solving and creativity”, key skills in IBM’s developer blog.

Show a strong answer
  • State the problem in one line.
  • Explain the option others missed, and why you chose it.
  • Give the outcome and how you measured it.

Questions you ask: from IBM’s blogs

All four questions are from IBM’s developer and consultant blogs. The notes are ours.

Projects

“What kind of projects will I be working on?”

What they’re testing: that you have thought about the real work.

Show a good follow-up
  • Ask which project a new joiner last worked on.
  • Ask how teams are chosen for new starters.

Clients

“Will I get to meet with customers as part of the job?”

What they’re testing: your interest in the people who use IBM’s work.

Show a good follow-up
  • Ask how often new developers join client calls.
  • Ask what a good first client meeting looks like.

Progression

“What’s the career progression like for a developer?”

What they’re testing: that you plan to stay and grow.

Show a good follow-up
  • Ask what the first two years look like.
  • Ask what separates people who move up quickly.

Learning

“Is there continuous learning available and what are my on-the-job training capabilities?”

What they’re testing: your drive to keep learning.

Show a good follow-up
  • Ask which skills new joiners usually build first.
  • Ask how much time goes to learning each month.

07/10Stage 4 · Decision

Decision and offer

IBM shares its decision after your final interview. “If you accept our offer, we’ll send documentation and guide you through your onboarding journey with us.”

An offer letter

IBM’s page says: “You will receive an offer letter”.

A welcome session

New joiners attend a “Start at IBM” welcome session.

Developers: JumpStart

“In the first two years”, IBM’s developer blog says, new developers “join our innovative JumpStart program”.

IBM publishes no figure for any current UK graduate route. Ask before you accept.

Scam check

“All legitimate correspondence from IBM will originate from an ibm.com email address.”

From IBM’s UK application process page and its developer blog, read on 20 October 2026. For a sense of UK pay, see our guide to salaries in the UK.

08/10

Visa sponsorship

IBM’s UK pages say nothing on graduate sponsorship. Our reading: if you need sponsorship, ask IBM before you apply.

Two experienced UK ads, read on 20 October 2026, say: “Unfortunately, we do not offer visa sponsorship”. One adds “and have no future plans to do so”. Both are experienced roles, not graduate ones.

On 17 October 2026, the closed Hursley graduate ad said “you must have permanent residency to work in the UK”.

The Graduate visa and right to work
  • Graduate visa. It lasts “2 years if you apply on or before 31 December 2026” and “18 months if you apply on or after 1 January 2027” (GOV.UK).
  • Right to work. See how to prove your right to work.

Need sponsorship? See our guides to UK companies that sponsor visas and staying in the UK after studying. This is general information, so check GOV.UK.
