Where these facts come from
  • Programme. Across your rotations you “gain exposure to the full lifecycle of our business”. The ad does not give the programme’s length (broking ad 107780).
  • Qualification. You join the “Launch Programme”, with “support towards the Level 4 Diploma in Insurance from the CII and beyond, with paid study leave and study materials”. The CII (Chartered Insurance Institute) calls it “a technical and supervisory qualification for insurance staff” (CII).
  • Pay. Aon offers “competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package”. “Further details about salary and benefits will be shared during the recruitment process” (FAQ). Compare salaries in the UK.
  • Office days. “you will spend the first six months based in the office”. After that, “at least three to four days face to face in the Aon office or with clients”.
  • Places. Aon does not publish how many graduates it hires.
Aon's six stages for its 2027 broking graduate programme. Stage 1: an online application where you upload your CV, reviewed by a person in up to 2 weeks. Stage 2: an online assessment of your skills and strengths, with 5 calendar days to finish it. Aon does not name the test. Stage 3: a HireVue video interview with up to 10 days to record it, watched by a person. Stage 4: shortlisting, with news typically within 2 to 3 weeks and no assessment centre place guaranteed. Stage 5: an in-person assessment centre with individual and group exercises. Stage 6: a final interview, only for some roles. Apply early, as Aon may close the ad earlier if it receives the quantity, quality and variety of applications it needs.

What Aon looks for in a broker

For brokers, Aon names three things it looks for. The ad adds “You do not need to be an insurance expert on day one.”

Motivation and ambition

The ad wants “motivation and ambition to pursue a career in Commercial Risk or Reinsurance Broking”. It adds “previous broking or insurance experience is not required”.

Commercial awareness

“Strong business insight, commercial awareness and an interest in how broking supports client decisions and business growth.”

Ability to build relationships, communicate and work collaboratively

“Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt your style for different stakeholders.”

The three names come from Aon’s graduates page. The quotes under them come from the broking ad.

The ad’s full list, and what the job involves
  • Curiosity. “Curiosity about business, risk, insurance, reinsurance, analytics, finance, economics, client service or global markets”.
  • Judgment. “Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical abilities”, including the judgment to “know when human expertise should override automated outputs”.
  • Teamwork. “A collaborative and inclusive approach”, with “a willingness to seek out diverse perspectives and contribute as part of a team”.
  • Technology. “AI literacy, sound AI judgment and confidence using technology, including Copilot”. Also “Excel, PowerPoint and Word”.
  • Languages. “If you speak a second language, in addition to English, to a business or fluent level, please mention it when completing your application.”
  • The job. You learn to “validate exposure and market analysis, support market negotiation, build direct client relationships and, over time, own smaller placements”.

04/10Stage 1 · Apply

Wait for review

Up to two weeks, by a person

The one-application rule, review and entry
  • One application. “We ask candidates to submit one Early Careers application per recruitment cycle.” The team “may discuss alternative options with you” (FAQ).
  • Aon’s tip. “Choose the role you’re most excited about, rather than treating a second application as a back-up option.”
  • Rolling review. “We process applications on a rolling basis”. Each one is “reviewed by our team (not by AI)”, which “can take up to two weeks”.
  • CV. “We do not review CVs or cover letters at this point.”
  • Entry. “a 2:1 degree or equivalent in any degree subject”, achieved or on track. Aon welcomes “final year students”.
  • Languages. “If you speak a second language, in addition to English, to a business or fluent level, please mention it when completing your application.”
  • The form. The Apply button needs an account, so we have not seen the form’s questions.

Commercial Risk or Reinsurance, and which office

Commercial Risk: London, Glasgow or Liverpool

The team “helps organisations identify, understand and manage the risks that could impact their people, assets and performance”.

Reinsurance: London only

The team “works with insurance companies and other risk-bearing organisations”. In plain words, reinsurance is insurance that insurers buy.

One ad covers both teams and all three offices. Aon does not say how you choose an office. The ad says only that the assessment centre is at “the Aon office closest to the location you applied for”. So ask Aon’s Early Careers team before you apply.

Other Aon graduate streams for 2027

Six other UK graduate streams were open on 15 October 2026, each with its own ad. You still get one application in total.

Stream Offices, in the ad’s words Closing date
Insurance Actuarial Consulting and Reinsurance Analytics “Both roles will be based in our London office.” 7 Dec 2026
Actuarial Consulting, Pensions (Regional) “Epsom, Glasgow, Leeds and St Albans” 7 Dec 2026
Actuarial Consulting, Pensions (London Only) “London only” 7 Dec 2026
Client Management “Leeds only” 7 Dec 2026
Data Solutions (Wealth Solutions) “our Birmingham office“, or the separate Glasgow ad 7 Dec 2026
Catastrophe Modelling “our London office” 7 Dec 2026

Close dates from Aon’s job board, checked on 17 October 2026. Each ad says it may close earlier. Commercial Risk Consulting had no ad when we checked on 15 October 2026.

Your CV: do and don’t

Do

“Ran sponsor outreach for a 300-person student event and secured four new partners”

Show a result and the relationships behind it. Aon wants the “Ability to build relationships”.

Don’t

“Responsible for various tasks in a busy team”

It shows no result. Aon also says AI “should support, not replace, your own thinking”.

Aon says your CV is “not used for initial screening”. But at the assessment centre, “your CV and cover letter will be shared with hiring managers”. Our CV achievement examples show how to turn a task into a result. Getting ready to apply for jobs in the UK? Check your CV for free: see it the way a recruiter does, then fix each problem.

Missed it, or not selected? Your options
  • Still a student? The Summer Internship 2027 in broking is for “penultimate-year students”. It runs for 9 weeks in London from 21 June 2027. Its ad also closes on 7 December 2026, or earlier. “Your performance during your internship may lead to an offer for a place on our graduate programme”.
  • One per cycle. Aon asks for “one Early Careers application per recruitment cycle”, so you cannot apply again this cycle.
  • Reapply later. “We generally recommend waiting 12 months before reapplying”. Aon’s FAQ says new opportunities “will open in October”. So the next cycle is likely to open in October 2027.
  • Entry-level jobs. “Aon regularly advertise entry-level opportunities across our business and locations” on its job site.
  • UCL students. “UCL: Preparing for Assessment Centres Employer Panel”, Monday 26 October 2026, 12:30 GMT to 14:00 GMT (events calendar).
  • Undergraduates. The “Aon Early Careers Maths Challenge Day 2027”, Friday 12 February 2027, “application required”.

05/10Stage 2 · Online assessment

The online assessment

Stage 2 is an online assessment, with 5 calendar days to finish it. Aon’s careers pages do not name the test.

5 days

Calendar days to finish it

No test or vendor on Aon’s pages

Extensions

Available if you ask

Aon says the assessment is “designed to help us understand how your skills and strengths align with the opportunity you’ve applied for”. The length, the number of questions and the test types are not published.

More time and adjustments
  • Extensions. The ad says “If you need more time, just let us know as extensions are available.” The FAQ adds “Where a genuine technical issue or reasonable adjustment requirement prevents you from completing an assessment within the expected timeframe, an extension may be considered.”
  • Adjustments. “If you require reasonable adjustments at any stage of your application, please contact the Early Careers team”. The contact details are in the FAQ.
Aon's two remote stages side by side. The online assessment gives you 5 calendar days to finish, measures your skills and strengths, is not named by Aon, and extensions are available. The video interview gives you up to 10 days, runs on HireVue, asks about your experiences, motivations and interest in the role and Aon, and is watched by a person, not AI. After the video, Aon says you typically hear back within 2 to 3 weeks, and not every candidate is invited to an assessment centre.
Stages 2 and 3 on the route. Aon does not publish the test type or the number of video questions. (click to enlarge)

The AI rule: prepare with it, never use it in a stage

Allowed

  • AI to research Aon
  • AI to prepare for interviews
  • AI to refine your CV
  • More time, if you ask

Asked not to

  • AI tools in the online assessment
  • AI in live or recorded interviews
  • Recording or transcribing interviews
  • A second application this cycle

From the broking ad. It asks you to “refrain from using AI when completing assessments or during live or pre-recorded interview processes”. It says interviews “should not be recorded or transcribed”. AI “should support, not replace, your own thinking”.

06/10Stage 3 · Video interview

The HireVue video interview

Stage 3 is a recorded video interview on HireVue. Aon wants to “learn more about your experiences, motivations and interest in both the role and Aon”.

You get “up to 10 days (240 hours) from receiving your invitation to record and submit your video interview”. “Every video interview is reviewed by a real member of our recruitment team, not an AI system.” You “typically hear back from us within 2-3 weeks”. The number of questions, the prep time and any retakes are not published.

Step through the HireVue

HireVue video interview: up to 10 days to record

Welcome and device check

Read how many questions there are, how long it takes and the due date, then let the page check your camera and microphone. Employers set their own version, so yours may differ.

Our drawing of the HireVue start screens: a "What you can expect" card with the number of video questions, notes on how you will be reviewed, the time it takes, the due date and a Continue button, and a camera and microphone check with "Good!" ticks for video and audio.

Practise first

Answer a practice question in Practice Mode, then watch it back to check you can be seen and heard before you start the real interview.

Our drawing of a HireVue practice question with a blue Practice Mode banner saying responses are not saved, the question on the left and your video on the right, and a review card where you watch your answer and choose another practice question or Start Now.

Read the question while prep time runs

Read the question while the prep timer runs down, and click Start Recording when you are ready or wait for the timer to end.

Our drawing of a HireVue question screen during prep time: Question 2 of 6 with the retries and minutes allowed, the question text on the left, an orange prep time bar joined to a Start Recording button, and a darkened self view marked NOT Recording with a head-and-shoulders guide.

Record your answer

After a 3-second countdown your answer records while the response timer runs, and you click Done Answering to finish early.

Our drawing of a HireVue question screen while recording: a blue response time bar joined to a Done Answering button, your live video below it, and a note showing the 3-second countdown that comes before recording starts.

The end

When you finish you see Interview Received, and if you were cut off you can resume from your last unanswered question.

Our drawing of two HireVue status pages: Interview Received, saying the employer received your completed interview, and Interview in Progress with a Resume Interview button.

Your moves

  • Use the practice question to check light, sound and framing.
  • Use prep time to pick one story, not to write a script.
  • Record early in your 10 days, with your device plugged in.

Our own simplified drawings of each screen, not screenshots. Timers on them are examples, not Aon’s settings. Aon gives you up to 10 days to record, and a person on its team watches your answers.

Set up: HireVue’s own advice
  • Room. “Choose a space where you are comfortable, is well-lit, and has a good internet connection” (HireVue FAQ).
  • Time. Most take “under 20-30 minutes”, but “you should set aside 45 minutes”.
  • Power. “Make sure your device is fully charged or plugged in”.
  • No AI. Aon asks candidates not to use AI tools “during live or pre-recorded interviews”.

How to answer: STAR, in your own words

Aon’s test pages suggest “the STAR technique” for recorded answers. Its careers pages publish no answer method.
