BlackRock Analyst Programme Application Process 2027: Edinburgh, HireVue Video, Coding Test and Interviews

2027 Full-Time Analyst Programme · EMEA ad · Edinburgh, UK

Edinburgh open · closes 30 Oct 2026Missed London? Your options

Short answer: Apply now. BlackRock’s EMEA ad was live for Edinburgh when we checked on 17 October 2026. Edinburgh closes on 30 October 2026, with no closing time given. BlackRock reviews “on a rolling basis”. You pick up to three functions. Each needs a recorded pre-interview video, or a coding test for two technology functions, within five days. Then come three to four 35-minute interviews. No UK pay figure is published.

Where are you now?

Independent guide. EP Advisory is not affiliated with BlackRock.

BlackRock’s 2027 Full-Time Analyst Programme is “a prestigious two-year experience” that starts in August 2027. BlackRock posted one EMEA ad for London, Edinburgh and other offices. Most London roles have closed. Their deadline was set for 30 September 2026. So this guide puts Edinburgh first.

This playbook takes you through each BlackRock stage, from the form to your first day. For nearly 10 years, we’ve helped more than 5,000 professionals get hired. Want to know if your CV will pass screening in the UK? Check your CV for free: a score in 30 seconds, then a fix for each problem.

Where these facts come from
  • Start. “the Analyst Programme start date is in August, with earlier start dates considered” (EMEA ad).
  • Who can apply. “Candidates should be graduating from an undergraduate or master’s degree program between June 2026 – July 2027. We welcome applications from candidates studying any degree subject.” No minimum grade is stated.
  • Pay. “Our pay-for-performance philosophy includes a base salary and a discretionary annual bonus.” The ad links a pay sheet for some offices in continental Europe, with no UK figure. Compare salaries in the UK.
  • What changed. Last cycle had one deadline, “Friday 24th October 2025” (archived 2026 ad). This cycle, London closed first.
BlackRock's stages for the 2027 Full-Time Analyst Programme in EMEA. Step 1: choose up to three functions, in one region and one programme. Step 2: an online application with basic details and your CV. Step 3: a recorded pre-interview video, once for each function, within five days. Step 4: a coding test of about 60 minutes, only for Software Engineering and Analytics & Modeling. Step 5: three to four 35-minute interviews with people from the function. Step 6: the start, with an orientation first, then two years on the programme. BlackRock gives no closing time and reviews applications on a rolling basis, so apply early.

What BlackRock looks for

BlackRock judges you against its five Principles. Interviews “assess your qualifications to join BlackRock against team requirements and our five core principles”.

We are a fiduciary to our clients

“it reflects our integrity and the unbiased advice we give our clients.”

We are One BlackRock

“We work collaboratively to create the best outcomes for our clients”.

We are passionate about performance

“finding better ways to serve our clients and improve our firm.”

We take emotional ownership

“We have a deep sense of responsibility to our clients and to each other.”

We are committed to a better future

“We are long-term thinkers, focused on helping people build a better tomorrow.”

Know your function

BlackRock people advise: “learn about the area that you’d be going into”.

The five Principles come from the EMEA ad and BlackRock’s Principles page. The last row comes from BlackRock’s own advice video.

Six business areas: you pick up to three functions

BlackRock does not say which functions hire in Edinburgh. You choose from these business areas on the form.

Business area Functions, in BlackRock’s words
Analytics & Risk Investment Risk & Quantitative Analysis
Client & Product Product Strategy & Solutions; Research & Markets Advisory; Sales & Relationship Management – Institutional & Wealth; Sales & Relationship and Product Management – Fintech Platform
Corporate & Strategic Accounting; Business & Technology Audit; Business Management & Governance; Corporate Communications; Corporate Strategy and Finance; Compliance; Global Strategic Sourcing; Human Resources; Marketing; Public Policy; Strategic Clients & Initiatives
Investments Global Capital Markets; Infrastructure; Investment Product Strategy & Solutions; Investment Research; Portfolio Management; Private Markets Investing; Quantitative Investing
Operations Client Experience; Investment Operations
Technology Analytics & Modeling; Software Engineering; Technology Operations

From BlackRock’s EMEA students page. Function pages are global. For example, Portfolio Management asks for “Coding & programming skills (Python or similar)”. Investment Research is another example. Each says “you may be evaluated for opportunities with teams other than those listed”.

How to apply

Within five days, or you are withdrawn

The limits, from BlackRock’s FAQ: “you may only apply to one region”. You “select up to three functions” in one programme. And “you can submit up to two applications in total for the same programme and select no more than three functions overall. Each function counts towards this limit, so we recommend reviewing your choices carefully”.

The form, your CV and adjustments
  • The form. “Enter basic details and upload your resume/CV.” BlackRock mentions no cover letter or written questions.
  • CV updates. The FAQ says you can upload a revised CV after you apply.
  • A short questionnaire. An optional social mobility questionnaire “does not affect the outcome of your application”.
  • Adjustments. Ask the EMEA Campus Recruitment team, through the FAQ page.

Your CV: do and don’t

Do

“Led a five-person society project that cut our event sign-up time from a week to three days”

A result, and the team behind it.

Don’t

“Passionate about finance and a strong team player”

Traits with no proof. BlackRock wants “your capabilities and experience”.

BlackRock asks for “basic details” and your CV, so the CV carries your application. Our CV achievement examples and our guide to a strong CV show how to turn a task into a result. Missed London, or not selected? Your options
  • Two London areas. “Financial Markets Advisory – London” and “Technology – Sales & Relationship Management – FinTech Platform – London” close on 30 October 2026 (EMEA ad).
  • Client & Product. The Client & Product Graduate Rotational Programme is a separate programme with its own ad and deadlines.
  • Other EMEA offices. Milan, Amsterdam, Paris and Zurich close on 30 October. Budapest, Belgrade, Frankfurt, Munich and Copenhagen close on 13 November 2026. Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and Riyadh close on 31 January 2027. BlackRock says “local language fluency is required to work at our Continental Europe locations. However, only English is required for Budapest or for a position within Private Markets Investing in Zurich.”
  • Graduating in 2028? The 2027 Summer Internship is for students “graduating from an undergraduate or a master’s degree program in 2028”. Edinburgh closes on 30 October 2026.
  • Graduating in 2029? The Spring Insight Event runs in London and Edinburgh in April 2027. The ad gives 4 December 2026 as the closing date.
  • Next year. The 2028 programme was not announced when we checked on 17 October 2026. Last year’s ad was posted on 1 July 2025. BlackRock says “Many successful candidates apply more than once.”
  • Missed the five days? Then “you cannot reapply for the same opportunity” (FAQ).

05/10Stage 2 · Video or coding test

The pre-interview video and coding test

Right after you apply, you get a link to a recorded video, one for each function you pick. You have five days, and you cannot retake it.

5 days

Calendar days, weekends included

Up to 3

Recorded questions

90 sec

Most per answer, after 3 minutes’ prep

BlackRock’s FAQ says: “For each question, you’ll have three minutes to prepare and up to 90 seconds to respond. The entire process takes less than 10 minutes and must be completed in one sitting within five days of submitting your application.”

Step through the HireVue video

HireVue video interview: up to 3 questions, 5 days

Welcome and device check

Read how many questions there are, how long it takes and the due date, then let the page check your camera and microphone. Employers set their own version, so yours may differ.

Our drawing of the HireVue start screens: a "What you can expect" card with the number of video questions, notes on how you will be reviewed, the time it takes, the due date and a Continue button, and a camera and microphone check with "Good!" ticks for video and audio.

Practise first

Answer a practice question in Practice Mode, then watch it back to check you can be seen and heard before you start the real interview.

Our drawing of a HireVue practice question with a blue Practice Mode banner saying responses are not saved, the question on the left and your video on the right, and a review card where you watch your answer and choose another practice question or Start Now.

Read the question while prep time runs

Read the question while the prep timer runs down, and click Start Recording when you are ready or wait for the timer to end.

Our drawing of a HireVue question screen during prep time: Question 2 of 6 with the retries and minutes allowed, the question text on the left, an orange prep time bar joined to a Start Recording button, and a darkened self view marked NOT Recording with a head-and-shoulders guide.

Record your answer

After a 3-second countdown your answer records while the response timer runs, and you click Done Answering to finish early.

Our drawing of a HireVue question screen while recording: a blue response time bar joined to a Done Answering button, your live video below it, and a note showing the 3-second countdown that comes before recording starts.

The end

When you finish you see Interview Received, and if you were cut off you can resume from your last unanswered question.

Our drawing of two HireVue status pages: Interview Received, saying the employer received your completed interview, and Interview in Progress with a Resume Interview button.

Your moves

  • Check light and sound on the practice question.
  • Use the 3 minutes to pick one example.
  • Finish well inside 90 seconds.

Our own simplified drawings of each screen, not screenshots. The numbers on them are examples, not BlackRock’s settings. BlackRock asks up to three questions, with 3 minutes to prepare and up to 90 seconds to answer each. It takes under 10 minutes in one sitting, within five days. You take it once for each function, with no retake.

BlackRock names the platform only once. Its FAQ sends tech problems to HireVue’s support team. The questions are “based on the program you applied to”.

Set up: HireVue’s own advice
  • Room. “Choose a space where you are comfortable, is well-lit, and has a good internet connection” (HireVue FAQ).
  • Power. Keep your device “fully charged or plugged in while you conduct your interview”.

The coding test: Software Engineering and Analytics & Modeling only

Two technology functions take a coding test as their pre-interview assessment. BlackRock does not name the coding platform.

BlackRock’s FAQ says the coding test “includes a series of coding questions followed by one video question. You’ll have five calendar days to complete the coding portion, which typically takes about 60 minutes. The video question must be completed in one sitting.”

BlackRock’s January 2026 video describes it slightly differently: “two coding problems”, with “a short video explaining your thought process, approach, and solution after each question”. In that video, Analytics & Modeling codes in Python. In Software Engineering, “you can choose your preferred programming language”.

BlackRock's two kinds of pre-interview assessment side by side. The pre-interview video is for most functions: up to three questions, with 3 minutes to prepare and up to 90 seconds to answer each, under 10 minutes in total. The coding test is only for Software Engineering and Analytics & Modeling: coding questions followed by a video question, with the coding part typically taking about 60 minutes, within five calendar days. For both, you take one for each function you pick, you cannot retake it once submitted, and missing the five days withdraws your application.

What you can and cannot do

Allowed

06/10Stage 3 · Interviews

The interviews

Next, you meet three to four people from your function. BlackRock’s January 2026 video describes “three to four 35 minute in-person or virtual interviews taking place on one day or over the course of two days”.

The Principles and your experience

“These conversations will be focused on the BlackRock Principles, your experience or your capabilities”.

Behavioural and technical questions

The video promises “a mix of behavioral and technical questions”.

A group exercise, presentation or case study

Interviews “may include” one of these, “Depending on the team you’re interviewing with”.

Problem-solving, for software engineers

“For software engineers, this may include problem-solving exercises or technical questions.”
