Tech Nation Global Talent visa 2025: New guidelines & how to get endorsed

Recent updates from Tech Nation (January 22, 2025) have introduced significant changes to their guidelines that could impact your application if you are applying for the UK Global Talent Visa in Digital Technology this year. These changes impact what evidence you submit, how you structure your documents, and what counts as strong proof of talent.

There have been a lot of rejections recently, so understanding these new rules is critical if you want to get a Tech Nation endorsement in 2025.

📌 Make sure you are following the latest version of the guidelines: Tech Nation Global Talent Visa Guide 2025 (Notion)

Let’s break it all the changes down so you know exactly what to do.

And if you need support in how to get endorsed by Tech Nation and require personalised guidance, you can work with our team by purchasing a full UK Global Talent visa package. Alternatively, you can get an in-depth evaluation of your case during our 60-min Global Talent consultation

What changed in the Tech Nation Global Talent visa guidelines in January 2025?

Mandatory Criteria (MC) – clearer structure:

  • You need at least two unique documents proving you’re a leading or potential talent in digital tech.
  • Salary and equity alone are NOT enough – you must show real impact beyond your day job. Focus on showing how your ideas/strategies/projects/solutions got you the promotion or shares/bonuses = how you have created the impact beyond your job description.
  • Evidence must come from the last 5 years – anything created just for your visa application is unacceptable. So there will be stricter judgment when it comes to reviewing evidence pieces that happened/took place/got published very close to the submission date.

Optional Criteria (OC) – What’s different?

✅ OC1: Innovation

  • No major changes—but you still need to show proof of innovation (e.g., product development, proof of product in the market or unique technological contributions in the form of patents).
  • If you are applying with your own startup – financial projections, business plans or articles of association are not sufficient. Submit audited accounts or if not available, submit formal accounts that cover a period of more than 12 months. The accounts should include P&L and balance sheet, signed by the directors of the company.

🚨 OC2: Activities outside occupation

  • Online activities (e.g., ADPList mentorships) are no longer sufficient.
  • In-person engagements are more favourable – think on-stage keynote speeches, TV talks or in-person mentorship.
  • New categories added – organising interest groups (something new!), leading on policy and participating in clubs/societies for the furthering of the field.
  • All evidence provided should be for voluntary work (non-paid work) and sponsorship by your employer or company (for conference participation, for example) is not allowed.

🔥 OC3: Impact

  • Shares, equity, and bonuses are no longer valid under OC3 – these now fall under Mandatory Criteria. See Mandatory criteria section for details.
  • The new focus? Revenue and financial proof. If you built something, you need proof that it made money. Submit impressive numbers only when it comes to downloads and users. Use commercial contracts, or confirmation letters from senior team members showing revenue impact.
  • Basically, Tech Nation wants to see financial success, not just industry impact.

New insights for your Tech Nation UK Global Talent visa application

1️⃣ Less is more – be selective with evidence pieces

  • Tech Nation reviewers are overloaded, which means applications that are hard to read or overly complex are more likely to be rejected.
  • They do not want to sift through loads of screenshots, links, or dense text.
  • Limit screenshots to one or two per page.
  • Cut out anything unnecessary – choose your best evidence and leave everything else in your CV.

2️⃣ Additional Letters of Recommendation (LORs) are back in focus

  • They used to phase these out 2-3 years ago, but now they matter again.
  • A letter from an employer confirming your personal project contributions can strengthen your OC1 or OC2 evidence —but it must be someone else, different from your 3 main referees.

3️⃣ Follow the new Notion-based guidelines

  • The new Tech Nation Guidelines are hosted on Notion, not the old web version – the old version is still available online via Tech Nation’s website, so make sure you do NOT use it anymore. Check the Change Log section for the exact changes they are making. Here is the link to the new guidelines again.

Optional Criteria 2

  • Focus on in-person engagements, mentorships, and media coverage.
  • Avoid online-only contributions unless they’re high-impact.

Optional Criteria 3

  • Revenue matters—submit financial proof.
  • No more equity or employment shares—those go under MC now.
