The application rules, in Unilever’s words
- The form. “It is a simple and easy application process with the option of filling out your details using your LinkedIn profile. You may apply to one function in your application.”
- One function. Apply for the one function “you are most interested in”. “Only your first application will be considered”.
- R&D degrees. “a strong technical qualification in a Chemical, Biological, Physical or Data Science or closely related disciplines. We also accept Material and Engineering-related disciplines.”
- People, not AI. “We do not use AI when reviewing your application and a member of the recruitment team carefully reviews each and every application.”
When Unilever opens: its own words
Unilever gives two timings in two places. Its function pages carry the most current dates.
The UFLP page, checked 18 October 2026: “we open for applications once a year (around Q4) and work on a rolling basis, which means that as soon as we reach the required number of applications, we will close the process for that role/business area.”
The brochure, dated July 2026: “Applications for our Unilever Future Leaders Programme (UFLP) open once a year, typically around Q3.”

Your form answers: do and don’t
Do
“I chose Customer Development after a retail job where I moved a shelf display and sales of that line rose 15%”
Unilever wants your strengths tied to the function you’ve chosen. Use a real moment and a number.
Don’t
“I want to join a global company with famous brands”
It fits any company. It says nothing about your values or your function.

05/10Stage 2 · Profile Assessment
The Profile Assessment
Stage 2 is a Profile Assessment in two parts. Unilever does not name the test provider.

The test provider
From Unilever’s UFLP page, checked 18 October 2026. Unilever publishes no length, no practice version and no test rules. Guides to Unilever’s placement tests describe a different process, so skip them.
The adjustments Unilever offers
The function pages offer: “If required extending time spent in any ‘timebound’ assessments/interviews.” They also list “magnifying glass, decrease/increase the font size, change font & colour, screen ruler, and screen mask for everyone who would require support.”

Recorded, on your time
“You’ll be able to record and complete your interview anytime and anywhere.”
3 short questions

Practise: questions in Unilever’s style
Tell me about a time
Unilever publishes no question list. These are our own, built on its brochure’s top tips.
Impact
Tell me about a time you made an impact soon after joining a new team.
What they’re testing: Unilever wants you “to make an impact from day one”.
Show a strong answer
- One line on the team and when you joined.
- The gap you spotted, and the one thing you did about it.
- The result in a number, such as time saved or sales gained.
Hand up
Tell me about a time you volunteered for something outside your role.
What they’re testing: whether you “put your hand up for anything that may come your way”.
Show a strong answer
- Why you chose to step in.
- What was new or hard for you.
- What you delivered, and what you learned.
Suggestions
Tell me about a time you suggested a better way of doing something.
What they’re testing: Unilever’s tip to “bring suggestions”.
Show a strong answer
- The old way, and why it fell short.
- How you made the case to others.
- What changed, with a number if you can.
Learning
Tell me about a time you had to learn something new quickly.
What they’re testing: the “growth mindset” Unilever names on its Technology pages.
Show a strong answer
- What you had to learn, and by when.
- How you learned it, including the questions you asked.
- How you used it, and the result.
Why Unilever and the case
Our own questions, built on Unilever’s top tips. Card 3 is our own example of a case in Unilever’s style.
Why Unilever
Why Unilever, and why this function?
What they’re testing: “why you’ve chosen to apply to Unilever”, and how your values fit its goals.
Show a strong answer
- One Unilever goal or brand that matters to you, and why.
- One value or strength of yours, with a short example.
- Why this function, not the other six.
Your view
Pick a Unilever product or recent campaign. What do you think of it?
What they’re testing: Unilever asks you to “come prepared with your view”.
Show a strong answer
- Name it and where you saw it: in store, online or in an ad.
- One thing that works, and why.
- One thing you would change, linked to your function.
Business case
A Unilever brand is losing shelf space to a cheaper rival. What would you look at first?
What they’re testing: how you “solve real-world problems using Unilever scenarios”.
Show a strong answer
- Say the goal first: win back space, or protect profit.
- Pick two or three things to check, such as price, shoppers and the retailer’s view.
- Recommend one step, and say how you would know it worked.
Rotations
What do you want to learn in your first rotation?
What they’re testing: whether you will “take opportunities” in a rotational programme.
Show a strong answer
- One skill you want to build, tied to your function.
- Why it matters for the later rotations.
- How you would ask for feedback along the way.

The day

“we only provide detailed feedback following Discovery Centres.”
Your offer
“Any offer of employment is conditional upon” the continuous right to work in the UK.
From Unilever’s UFLP page and brochure. The brochure says “whether that be in person or virtually”. The UFLP page says face-to-face, so plan for that. In the September 2025 intake ad, Discovery Centres ran “from the week commencing the 27th of January 2025” at “either our London Blackfriars or Port Sunlight (Wirral) office”. This cycle may differ.
08/10
Visa sponsorship
Unilever UK does not sponsor UFLP graduates. Check your right to work before you apply.
Unilever’s 2026 brochure, dated July 2026: “For our UFLP programme candidates must have the continuous right to work in the UK.” It adds: “Unilever UK does not provide sponsorship to undergraduates and graduates trying to obtain the right to work in the UK.”
Our reading: you need the right to work for the whole 36-month programme. Unilever says it does not sponsor, so a Graduate visa alone may not cover all of it.
The Graduate visa and right to work
- Graduate visa. It lasts “2 years if you apply on or before 31 December 2026” and “18 months if you apply on or after 1 January 2027” (GOV.UK). The programme runs three years.
- Right to work. See how to prove your right to work.
Need sponsorship? See our guides to UK companies that sponsor visas and staying in the UK after studying. This is general information, so check GOV.UK.

Key takeaways
Before you apply
- Unilever opens each UFLP function at its own time, and closes it once it has enough applications.
- In 2026, five functions closed within three weeks of opening, so get ready before yours opens.
- You apply to one function only. Unilever considers only your first application.
- Unilever gives the salary as £35,000, checked 18 October 2026.
- After the form come a two-part Profile Assessment, a recorded Digital Interview and a Discovery Centre.
- Unilever UK does not sponsor, so you need the right to work for all three years.

When does the Unilever Future Leaders Programme open each year?
Unilever’s UFLP page says it opens “once a year (around Q4)”. Its July 2026 brochure says “typically around Q3”. In 2026 the first five functions opened in late September, and each function page now gives its own opening date.
How much does the Unilever Future Leaders Programme pay?
Unilever gives “A Competitive Salary of £35,000”, checked 18 October 2026. It adds a benefits envelope worth 25% of pensionable earnings, an annual bonus, 25 days of holiday and a £5,000 tax-free relocation loan.
Can I apply to more than one UFLP function?
No. Unilever asks you to apply for the one function you are most interested in. It says “Only your first application will be considered”. So choose before your function opens.
What are the stages of the Unilever Future Leaders Programme?
An online application, then a Profile Assessment with a portrait personality test and an online assessment. Next is a recorded Digital Interview with 3 short questions and a business case. Last is a face-to-face Discovery Centre.
Does my degree matter for the Unilever Future Leaders Programme?
Unilever accepts any degree and discipline, except for R&D. R&D needs a strong technical degree, such as chemical, biological, physical or data science, or a material or engineering subject. Unilever publishes no degree class.
Does Unilever sponsor visas for the Future Leaders Programme?
No. Unilever’s 2026 brochure says “Unilever UK does not provide sponsorship to undergraduates and graduates”. You need the continuous right to work in the UK. A Graduate visa alone may not cover the whole three years.
